On January 18^th, 2012, Terreform ONE was proud to host the Awards Ceremony and Exhibition Opening for the second annual ONE Prize Design and Science Award at the AIA Center for Architecture in NYC. Traveling from as far as Toronto, L.A., and Colorado, the ONE Prize winners celebrated their achievements alongside the competition’s prestigious jury members, friends and colleagues, and numerous public attendees. The ceremony was a great success, and the exhibition will be open until February 11.

On July 14th, the One Prize jury met to narrow down the competition’s 30 semifinalists to four finalists: one winner and three honorable mentions. Where were they? Press Release: One Prize: Water as the 6th Borough Semifinalists

Terreform ONE is very pleased to announce the semifinalists of:
Water as the 6th Borough: Open International Design Competition to Envision the Sixth Borough of
New York City

The competition called for ideas for the NYC Blue Network and E3NYC, The World Largest Clean Tech Expo. The propositions ranged from: expanding waterborne transportation, linking the five boroughs with transit
hubs, incorporating ferries, water taxis, bike shares, electric car-shares, and electric shuttle buses, as well as
providing in-water recreation, educational events, cultural activities, pavilion halls, and climate resilience.

The competition drew 256 people in 86 teams from 18 countries and four continents. It became a big
challenge to narrow them down to 30 SEMIFINALISTS. (click here to see the entries)

From here, the jury has a really difficult job to select the winners. The semifinalists will remain anonymous
until the winners are announced. The jury panel, chaired by NYC Planning Commissioner Amanda Burden
will meet in a closed session on July 14, 2011 at the AIA New York Chapter: Center for Architecture. The
winners are going to be announced on July 28, 2011.

The finalists will be featured on oneprize.org, terreform.org and our media sponsors. The One Prize Exhibition
and award Ceremony will take place in the fall of 2011.

We have made some changes to the One Prize 2011 Design Competition brief which we hope will clarify the project requirements. You also have six (6) zones to choose from for the Clean Tech World Expo component. These are the five (5) boroughs AND (new) the water borough itself.
